One Simple Tip

Did you know that your stove represents wealth? Your Kitchen is where you feed your body and in ancient times, indicated who was successful in their lives if they had food on the table. And come to think about it... it still indicates the exact same thing.

So here is this very simple Feng Shui tip:

When cooking, rotate using ALL of your burners.. this symbolic gesture says you are receiving wealth from many different resources. Simple, yet a leap of faith.

April Showers bring May flowers... so, how is your shower looking?

Let's take a trip to the bathroom. This is where we get clean so we want to be sure things are cleaned up in Feng Shui terms. In the bathroom, all waste materials go down the drain. Before money goes down the drain as well, think about your feelings while in the bathroom. Are you calm? Are you irritated by dripping water? Could you read a nice book while bathing? Remember, the way you feel when in your bathroom is probably how others feel as well.

Crisp Baby Crisp... I needed to say that because if you can’t feel crisp and clean in the bathroom, where can you?

Part of feeling crisp and clean and ready to start your day is making sure that everything in the bathroom is functioning as it should. Be sure to fix any leaking problems right now. Leaky faucets means money down the drain. Yikes!

Here are some ideas when it comes to color:

First and foremost you should LOVE the color you use. It should make you smile and say ahhhh. Second, good Feng Shui colors for the bath are light grays, cream and pale blues. Keep it simple and well lit, so everyone can see where they are going. Third, the colors you choose can make life easier for you and your family. Don’t want anyone to slip in the shower or tub because the color is too dark, right?

Other things to consider...

The entry to the home is where career and opportunities come into the home. If the bathroom is located directly in front of the entry, your opportunities could flow out immediately.... Yikes again!

• To prevent a loss of opportunity close the bathroom door and toilet lid (when not in use) to prevent the escape of chi.

• Always a good thing to diminish the bathroom affect by placing a full-length mirror on the bathroom/toilet closet door. The mirror helps deflect chi and also creates an illusion of the toilet not being there.

• Another way to counteract money going "down the drain" is to keep a bowl of pebbles or fresh flower arrangement on the toilet tank or on a shelf above the toilet. This element of earth, helps control the not so desirable water.

Think good flowing water... naturally relaxing and a feng shui purifier. Combining it with the right feng shui elements and materials will create a soothing space for you. Plus, if you combine visuals with water this will in turn bring you pleasure and create good feng shui energy.

• Mirror, mirror on the walls... yes can bring you pleasure and reflect ambient light as well as enhance the presence of the feng shui "water element".

• Several sources of lighting is another visual to set the mood. Don't forget candles!

Just a little feng shui effort and Voila! - you have created your own private feng shui sanctuary to clear your mind, release stress and get the right perspective on life. Now you can enjoy your April showers all year 'round!

The Eyes are the Windows to the Soul

More importantly, can your eyes see through your windows? It's March folks and sooner than later we will be seeing some brilliant colors just outside our window panes. So it's time to talk windows. Here are some window tips to allow the sunshine in and positive chi flowing!

1. Cleanliness is a must. We all know it can be a pain to clean our window pane but it's necessary to keep the glass crystal clear to ensure a great flow of chi. Also, we know the immediate rewards of being able to see the spring time blossoms as they make their first showing. So, I suppose this tip goes with the old spring cleaning theory. Get those windows washed and allow yourself a clear view.

2. A room with a view. Your windows are the quick way to your back yard. What do you see there? Is your yard neatly manicured? Are things still a bit wilted from the winter? This is typical this time of year but allow this reminder to inspire you to make your view it's very best. Remove debris, fallen branches, last years leaves, and start to get your soil prepared for what is sure to be a wonderful planting season. This creates a much more pleasant view when peering through your sparkly clean windows.

Also, when thinking of your view, some of you may have outdoor plants or bird feeders visible through your windows. Did you know that placing a plant on your outside window sill is considered a wonderful way to prevent negative chi from entering your home? Choose feeders and plants that you adore and will bring a smile to your face when you enjoy the view.

3. Controlling the light. Sometimes we have homes that have an abundance of windows and we think that's wonderful, until it's just too bright in the room. There is a fine way to control the amount of light, which can lead to hyperactivity if left on it's own. In Feng Shui, bamboo or wooden shades are an excellent decorative and useful way to shield your room from an overabundant amount of light.

An added benefit to using shades is privacy and a feeling of security. You can also use plants or other decorations outside your window to shield the light and keep you private.

So you see, loving your windows and the view outside of them, is easy as 1, 2, 3. Happy Spring to you all!

Spicy Feng Shui

Still wanting to keep things spicy? If so, this is worth repeating...

Color triggers feelings and impressions. Some colors remind us of past experiences. Some perk up our energy and creativity. Some make us feel lazy and bored. Repainting rooms in colors you love is a great way to change how you feel about a room and in Feng Shui terms... can spice up your life.

Since February is the month of Valentine's Day and who can think of the holiday without thinking of cupid piercing his arrow into that RED heart, that begs the question, what does the color red actually do for us?

RED is a strong color that is great to rev you up and keep you going, just what we all need after the new year has begun and we are at that time when we might tend to get lazy. RED traditionally symbolizes strength, energy, and increases confidence and power.

Here are some areas where seeing red might not be such a bad thing:

• The color red can even effect our appetites! This is why you so often see red tablecloths in restaurants. Paint a red wall in your dining area and see conversation perk up and more empty plates.

• You can actually remove that listless and bored feeling by painting a red wall in your office area to jumpstart your brain. Yep, red increases energy in both your body and mind.

• Last but never least is your love area. Since the color red tends to stir things up in the love area red candles might be all you need. Remember to place small red items that remind you of love in pairs so you can encourage a healthy love relationship to come to you or stay with you.

Remember, sometimes just a touch of RED goes a long way.

• Send a little more spice to your life? Replace pictures of lone figures with images of happy couples. Artwork has a tremendous impact on the subconscious. When you surround yourself with photos, paintings, sculptures and knickknacks of solitary figures, you'll carry yourself accordingly. Replacing such images with representations of happy twosomes will make you more receptive to love.

Inauguration Day & The Oval Office

Last month, after looking down and seeing our doormat or lack thereof, we took steps to make that area say welcome. Now in honor of this Tuesday's inauguration, as our new President, Barrack Obama, takes his first steps through the White House doors into his Oval Office, we will focus on a symbol that will honor and support him, all while sprucing up our own offices.

The oval office is a grand one and yours should be too. Here's how to make your office be an actual support to you and your success. Look at your desk and turn it to the "power" position so you can see the door when you sit at it. Be sure there is a solid wall behind your desk which is also a symbol of support while you are working.

Add in plants, which stimulate yang energy and keep your mind and body active while at work. Choose colors for your office, that inspire thought and creativity such as red for the wheeler and dealer, gold/yellow to help you concentrate, blue for the consultant or you own a bookstore, pale pinks/ peach for consulting in love matters , and pale green or blue for the health professional.

Finally, be sure your desk is organized, not cluttered and you have a comfy chair to sit in while you work, create, and shine in 2009!

As for the Oval Office, any picture you might see online, has a wall of windows right behind the President. You don't want to follow suit there. That's no way to feel supported. If any of you know the President, please give him my number. I can help!

A Tip of the Hat to 2009

It's 2009, and this year is no different. We all make resolutions and sometimes we even break them. Here's the chance to shake things up a bit...

In Feng Shui, your front door means the world and put more simply it's the entrance to your world. So look outside your front door and tell me what you see. Is there an old door mat? Is the image distorted on it? Are the fibers torn and tattered? Is there no welcome mat at all?

There's a simple solution to this issue and aren't we all longing from something simple to start off our year? Go get a new one. Hey, the act of replacing your old one, can even help with that other resolution, to get in shape! So let's do this exercise together.

1. Bend over
2. Lift the old mat
3. Toss it out or better yet, recycle
4. Go to the store
5. Buy a new mat, blue is a great color or even one that has a water image on it. This supports your career.
6. Drive home
7. Do another deep bend ... make this one a squat
8. Lay out your new, beautiful door mat so all will feel welcome into your home.

Happy Holidays - From Me to You

Well, folks, it's the holiday season and whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or a peaceful day away from the hustle and bustle, it's a good time for making lists. Everyone has a wish list. Secretly or out in the open, we all wish Santa would RSVP in a hurry. I'm dedicating this column to those of you who have a whisper for Santa's ear about your home and Feng Shui. Just write me and I will give you a helpful tip as a gift from me to you, this holiday season. Remember, these tips are a means of getting your foot in the door, but if you want an even bigger treat, buy yourself or someone else the gift of Feng Shui.

Here is a link to do just that FengShuiMeBaby.com

I recently heard from two people who had a request for their stockings too and here are my Feng Shui tips:

Annette wrote:

Dear Terri,

What do you think of this? I am so new to Feng Shui, and frankly, a smidge skeptical, but I don't like how this tree is just in the front smack of the house, can I balance it out with something else? My husband REALLY doesn't want to uproot it. The door faces Northwest, and our house number would add up to 9. :)

Thanks! Annette

Dear Annette who is ready to climb a tree!,

My suggestion is to add in another tree (or maybe even two trees) to help balance the one lonely tree in the front yard. It's important to add in the second tree to symbolize unity and support for more than one person living in the home especially since the front entrance faces northwest. Another suggestion would be to prune the existing tree so it sits lower and doesn't hover over the home too much, once you add in a second tree.

As for the front door facing Northwest, ideal color choices to paint it would be white, silver, copper or gold to enhance the "metal" element and also to enhance the career area for whoever lives in the home. The front main entrance is the area where the main chi (energy) enters and roams around the home and most definitely enhances your career.

All the Best,
Terri

Then I heard from Luiz who said:

Terri,
I recently lost my job and every time I go for an interview I get no response. Do you have any Feng Shui tips to help me get a new job?

Dear Luiz,

Step one, de-clutter. You want to have a clear flow of energy around you and be able to direct your energy toward building more career possibilities. Start in your office area and work your way through your whole house. As I have mentioned before, decluttering is about letting go of things you no longer need. Once you do that, you are saying... "I am ready to receive more".

An Instant Tip: Because the stove represents prosperity and health, you want to use ALL the burners equally. Rotate their use rather than always using the same burner. This represents receiving money from multiple sources.

All the Best,
Terri
